Rupert Eder is a painter of vibrantly colored oil paintings and watercolors that oscillate between minimalist and complex forms and structures. He understands painting as a mental process that cannot be expressed by anything other than painting itself. The exhibition Fearless Light water features works on canvas from this series of works begun in 2020 and at the same time stands programmatically for Rupert Eder’s current work.
Under the influence of the pandemic, a time that sensitizes us to the fragility of our living environment, Rupert Eder has been working on the Fearless Light and Einstein series. Watercolors and oil paintings approximate each other and take up similar pictorial concepts. Where he previously left the canvas partially free, there is now a strong condensation in the pictorial plane and a superimposition of layers. In the Einstein series, he also divides individual areas and deliberately sets short sweeps of color. The paintings from the Fearless Light and Einstein series vary the imagination of light in its full spectrum and, in their complexity, achieve a radically aesthetic explosive force.
