As is tradition, Kunsthal Charlottenborg hosts the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition one of the most important open, censored exhibitions in Europe. Since 1857, the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition has exhibited a wide range of genres within the visual arts, architecture, design and craft. The exhibition offers a significant number of artists the chance to present their works to the wider public and has constituted the first important step for many young artists over the years on the path towards a professional career, while also giving more established names the opportunity to present new works in the large group exhibition.

This year, the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition received entries from 832 applicants, of whom 38 artists and artist groups are now on display. Many of the artists are from Denmark, the Nordics and several European countries, but this year's exhibition also includes contributors from Mexico, Russia, Taiwan and Australia. Behind the total of 82 selected works are participants with vastly different backgrounds and experience - some of them with longer exhibition histories, others young, emerging talents.

In addition to selecting the works for the exhibition, the jury has awarded three prizes: The Talent Award, The Solo Award in collaboration with Politikens Forhal, and the Deep Forest Art Land 60 Award. The Solo Award is accompanied by an invitation to present a solo exhibition at Politikens Forhal in 2023. With the Deep Forest Art Land Award follows an invitation to present an artwork at Deep Forest Art Land later this year.

The works presented at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2022 were selected by a jury consisting of: Grethe Wittrock (textile artist), Sophie Suaning (artist), Peter Bertram (architect), David Risley (artist) and Hesselholdt & Mejlvang (artist duo).

The Spring Exhibition is curated by Hesselholdt & Mejlvang. Through their curation, the artist-duo will focus on curiosity, dialogue and exchange, which also form the basis for their collaboration. This is why they have asked each of the participating artists to pose them a question. Hesselholdt & Mejlvang want to provide personal insights into some of the structures that artists have to engage in, when working. The audience can experience and immerse themselves in the questions and the curators' answers, as an extra layer to the exhibition.
