The series Optical Score is a homage to classical music. Günther Uecker combines two techniques that are important for the artist's graphic oeuvre, embossing and lithography. The sublime portraits of the nail heads are clearly visible, gently rising out of the paper in rhythmic rows. No less unmistakable are “written” rulings made of black ink. Once again, Uecker shows that, by its very nature, art is a persistent, constant struggle for the same, apparently well-known and often seen; and it is a complex, highly variable system of signs and matter, a play with essential image factors such as space, line, surface, point and color, which is repeated but always reassembled.
